Another Class Description

We're really looking forward to Sir Corin's Blacksmithing class. The description is below. In case of wet weather (though we're fervently hoping the sun shines), there will be alternative classes.

Basic Black Smithing: This class will begin with a short introduction on setting up a cheap first forge. The introduction will cover: materials and construction, fuel and where to get it, air supplies and basic tools. Following this will be a practical demonstration making an arrow head, knife, fork and fire striker (or as much as time will permit).

Please note that because the venue has no covered outdoor space the running of this class is at the mercy of the weather.

If it's raining or especially windy Sir Corin will instead run two shorter classes 'Medieval Astronomy' and 'A brief history of Time Keeping'.

Medieval Astronomy: This class covers the basics of medieval astronomy and will help with understanding those medieval timekeeping devices that relied on astronomical calculations.

A brief history of Time Keeping: This class covers period methods of measuring time with demonstrations of some reconstructions of medieval time keeping devices.

A Class Update

For those attending the belt making class, this just in from the teacher:

"For those wishing to make belts there is a cost associated ($10 for short belts (1.3m or shorter), $15 for long belts (up to 2m), or $20 for long belts in very heavy leather). If there are people wishing to attend that have their own materials they may of course attend for free (and I'll happily provide them with some needles to use and some thread), similarly anyone not wishing to construct a belt on the day is welcome to attend the workshop for free to learn about belts and period leatherworking techniques.
Regards,
Hugh"

So now you know!

Please book so we know how many to feed. It's hard to concentrate on an empty stomach.

An end to the anticipation

Here's another description of a class being run at BoC:

Brigandine Coats of Plates:Coats of plates are the perfect SCA Heavy combat armour; popular in the High Middle Ages, good impact spreading ability, flexible for dexterity, easy to make and repair, rust-concealing, easily made colourful and slimming, too. Gui has made several suits of this style of armour, and he will share his construction method with you, as well as hints and tips he picked up along the way.

Please don't forget to book. I need to know how many people we're feeding! Payment with booking is not required.

And now, the moment you've been waiting for, the class timetable is ready! Drum roll, please...

Classes marked with an asterix (*) incur a nominal fee.
